About the Book

The book is a collection of papers dealing with the problematique of peace in the context of western models of development rooted in the western vision of man, society, state, science and technology. It starts with a critique of the western vision, life style, and the state of man and society both in the capitalist and communist countries, and ends up with the suggestions of two alternative paths of development for taking care of the ills of both, the developed and developing societies. One alternative, in terms of Galtung’s colour scheme, is green in contrast to capitalist (blue) and communist (rd) models of development. The other model, albeit implied, is Gandhian which can be designated as white (Sattwika). Planners and social scientists interested in the problems of peace, technology and development and their interrelatedness will find this volume illuminating and refreshing.
