About the Book
Technological change in the Indian agriculture so far remains an unfinished task. The impact of the new technology is disperate between crops and regions. Obviously, the progress so far is restricted and symbolic and a lot more is to be done to adequately advance and disseminate it. A necessary first step in this direction would be to examine the growth trends and the probable causes thereof in all crops and regions, which is precisely the objective of this inquiry.
The book provides an interesting narrative of agrarian change in Karnataka by analyzing in depth the spatial patterns of the changes and trends in agricultural landuse, use of modern inputs, development of irrigation, and area, yield and production of all the principal crops The findings may interest both scholars and administrators concerned with the agricultural development of India in general and that of Karnataka in particular. The study offers a paradigm which may also be found helpful in carrying out similar analyses on the other regions in the country.
