About the Book
Given the limited scope for expanding the area of land under cultivation, the growth of non-agricultural employment or diversification of rural economy appears to be an important element of the development strategy. After 1971, the share of rural non-agricultural workers in the total rural work force has increased substantially in the country.
The present book, which is an outcome of a research project, undertaken by the Gujarat Institute of Development Research, Ahmedabad, deals with the different aspects of rural non-agricultural activities in Gujarat. Besides providing a broad overview of the dynamics of the rural non-agricultural sector, it also analyzes the trends and patterns of rural non-agricultural employment in Gujarat, results of some additional analysis of the primary data collected for the project have also been reported in this volume.
