Social Work in a Globalizing World highlights about the social work and its new development, new knowledge, skills, practice theories and approaches practiced by social work professionals, both in India and other countries. In the present book, an effort has been made for the students, practitioners and researchers and educators of social work in underpinning the overall social work knowledge and its philosophy. Broad overview of the value and ethics, world view of social work and its historical development in the world, foundation of social work practice, goals and components of good practice, levels of practice, intervention methods and different practice theories and approaches in social work used by social worker in different settings and diverse roles of social worker have been discussed at length. The book also contemplates on problems and challenges of social work as well as in field work practice today.
Today social work is facing a number of significant changes and challenges as it seeks to determine a unique identity in the face of competing and emerging profession. In this light, the book tries to question whether social worker should follow the western methods and approaches or should we favour Indianization of social work approaches, methods etc. based on our own socio-economic and political culture? About the Author / Editor
Sanjoy Roy is Associate Professor and Director (Field Work and Placements), Department of Social Work, University of Delhi. He has previously taught in different universities like Visva Bharati University (Santiniketan), IGNOU (New Delhi), Assam Central University (Silchar), and CSJM University (Kanpur). He has published ten books and over forty articles/research papers in books and refereed journals. He is associated with various professional bodies and is also the International Advisory Board Member in Encyclopedia of Social Work, NASW, USA. Besides, he is on the Editorial Board of Learning Community (An International Journal of Education and Social Development), Journal of Historical Archaeology & Anthropological Sciences, The International Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Society, International Journal of African and Asian Local Government Studies and International Journal of CPQ Medicine.
