Methodology of Progressive Social Work Education is the second title in the Sourcebook Series on Social Work Education initiated by the Social Work Education and Practice Cell of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai prepared with the purpose of training social work educators. It comprises of chapters on methodologies of Building a Perspective for Progressive Social Work Education, Curriculum Development for Progressive Social Work Education, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation in Progressive Social Work Education, Progressive Training Programmes, Progressive Social Work Knowledge Development and Progressive Social Work Knowledge Dissemination and Retrieval. The book is an outcome of the author’s journey of reading, reflections and implementation and interactions with colleagues and students within and outside the Tata Institute through different phases of her career as a social work educator.

It is hoped, it will further facilitate quality upgrading and maintenance of social work education.

About the Author / Editor

Murli Desai is Professor and Head of the Social Work Education and Practice Cell at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Earlier, she was the Head of the Unit for Family Studies at the Institute and Associate Editor of The Indian Journal of Social Work (IJSW). Based on her research, she has edited six books and seven special issues of the IJSW on different themes related to family studies, child protection, gerontology, gender awareness, development and social work literature and education. She has been a consultant to various government bodies such as the Ministry of Welfare, University Grants Commission, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Indian Council for Social Science Research and UNICEF. She has also played an active role in professional associations of social work in Mumbai and India and the International Association of Schools of Social Work.
