About the Book

Unlike the natural sciences, the social sciences have not gone far enough to fully utilise the potential of more advanced methods of research. However, in view of the radical changes in Indian society and culture after independence, the hold of traditional methods has loosened and social researches are now being conducted with scientific methods with emphasis on data analysis, rather than data collection as in the past. This book discusses important aspects of empirical social research.

The instruments of social research presented in this book are the devices used by the sociologists today to design the ways of collecting and processing information until the writing of the final report. The author has not merely collected them from various sources and arranged them systematically but has also enlivened them with his interesting style of writing.

The book could be taken as a reliable research guide for postgraduate scholars conducting sociological research.
