About the Book

Despite the adoption of secular principle in the post-independent India, the communal frenzy continues to trouble both our society and policy. The district administration plays a key role in controlling and, if at all, quelling the communal disturbance. Often, however, it has been found that the district administration is either not adequately sensitive or over-sensitive to such trouble and consequently unable to handle it properly. The political pressures also play their role. This book is an attempt to study the problem of communalism in some communally sensitive districts of Uttar Pradesh from the angle of district administration. It also highlights the urgency of restructuring administrative set-up and introducing bureaucratic accountability to tackle the problem of communal violence in a divided society like India. The analysis and the conclusions brought about would definitely given an insight to future administrators in tackling communal violence. The study will certainly interest not only the academicians and research scholars, but also all those having compassion and a longing for peace in society.
