About the Book

Medical Sociology is a specialized field in sociology. It is the deeper study of sicknesses and diseases and the treatment and reaction of society towards the sick, the study of human interaction and interrelations. Medical Sociology provides an extensive study of health and health related decisions in a society, finding root causes and individual and cultural solutions to health problems. It centres around the view of health and health related issues with the human welfare in mind. The book has twenty chapters and it covers topics as vast as introduction to medical sociology, health, society and education, preventive and protective hygienic habits, ageing, infectious and physical deficient diseases, social epidemiology, occupational diseases, health professionals and health care organizations, health planning in India, reproductive rights of women, medical ethics and law in India, first aid and disaster health care management and so on. About the Author / Editor

M. Thamilarasan is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, University of Madras, Chennai. He is Secretary of Research Committee 12: Population, Health and Society of Indian Sociological Society (ISS). He is Member in the Professional Development Committee of International Association for Society and Natural Resources (IASNR). He is immensely interested in the field of sociology of health, development sociology and natural resource management. His earlier major research projects and publications include Providing Health Services to All: Problems and Prospects, Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development and Research Methodology for Social Sciences.
