About the Book

The book presents a panoramic view of current sociological understanding of the emergent social reality. It is a collection of eighteen essays, and can be put into four major streams of thought. In fact, such kind of a discourse cannot have a common theme leading to logical conclusions. Though most of the contributors have concentrated their attention on social development and change, a few of them have also expressed their concerns for sociological theory. Rest of the essays are of different nature questioning the existential basis of human action, examining Nasr’s philosophy on religion and nature and caste has also been taken into consideration. The essays are not only exhaustive but also shed enormous light on the Hindu social theory. Two contributors have raised the issue of worker’s participation and provided a detailed model to redeem the crisis. The book will be invaluable for both academics and the lay readers to appreciate the critical issues in modern Indian society. Contributors A.K. About the Author / Editor

C. Lakshmanna served as the Assistant Professor of Sociology at Lucknow University, before he joined the Osmania University, Hyderabad, where his final assignment was Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology. He was also Visiting Professor at the Pittsburg University and some other universities in the US. Later, he was Member of Parliament and Indian High Commissioner to Trinidad & Tobago and other West Indies. He has widely travelled all over the world on academic assignments. Jugendra Sahai is a former Professor and Head, Department of Sociology, M.G. Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Lucknow and CCS University, Meerut. He visited several countries on different academic assignments. His main areas of interest are sociological theories and social development on which he has published/contributed papers in various sociological fora.
